All that is required to start practicing jodo is a jo and the dedication to practice. Acquiring a temporary jo is as easy as a quick trip to Home Depot and $5 to cut a cylinder of wood. You can purchase a more solid jo online for as low as $45 including shipping.
If you want to stick with jodo and dedicate more to the art, then I can help you acquire equipment. The standard setup for a dedicated jodoka is a dark blue gi and hakama, a jo, and a bokuto (wooden sword) with the leather tsuba (crossguard) held in place with a tsuba stopper.

All you need to practice is a staff, mop, tree branch, or even just a towel. Put in the effort and make it work for you.
